Dana Justin Coates has been a licensed insurance broker for over 25 years. From 1975 to 1990, he was a member of Ingham, Coates & Payne; a well-respected insurance brokerage in Pasadena, whose managing partner, Gleason L. "Tige" Payne was California's Insurance Commissioner. Between 1990 and 1995, Mr. Coates was associated with the Carr, Beedle Insurance Agency in South Pasadena and subsequently expanded his affiliation to SM&D Insurance in Pasadena.

In 1995 he incorporated the company under the name ISP Insurance Services, Inc. and in 2001 formed the United Western Division of United Agencies, Inc. United Agencies, Inc. now generates in excess of $150 million in annual premium volume.

Also, in 1995, Mr. Coates formed the Small Business Insurance Center® on the Internet. This entity is recognized as having been the third "virtual insurance agency" on the net, providing insurance for Computer Consultants, insurance for software developers and insurance for ISPs and WiSPs.

In affiliation with United Agencies, Inc., ISP Insurance Services, Inc. continues to operate several virtual insurance agencies; among them are ISPInsurance.com, WiSPInsurance.com, UWIB.com, TSBIC.com, TheInsuranceCenter.com, SmallBusinessInsurance.us, TechRiskNet.com, TheRiskNet.com, DrMedmal.com, Insurebrosclub.com, and machine-shop-insurance.com.

These sites have focused on providing insurance related resources and risk management information to technology companies, small business owners, motorcycle owners and machine shop operators.

Today, Coates' insurance operations represent hundreds of Technology Service Providers, Software Developers, Computer Consultants, Computer Programmers, ISP's and WiSPs and a host of other professional services, manufacturers and wholesale distributors.

Mr. Coates is one of the founding members and past president of The Association of Young Insurance Professionals. He is also a past president of The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers Association of Pasadena and serves on several non-profit boards within the Pasadena community. Additionally, Mr. Coates is a member of the Pasadena Rotary Club, the University Club of Pasadena and the USS Pasadena Foundation. Mr. Coates is married and resides in Pasadena with his wife and their two children. The Coates family attends Church in Eagle Rock California.
